The park is closed!!

Postby Don Cohn » Sun Jan 06, 2008 10:27 am

Today I went to Baylands Park only to find the park was closed. The gates were locked and there were two signs that read "Park Closed".

Oddly enough, I noticed that people were flying anyways. There were some cars parked at the entrance, where it is posted "No Parking" and some people were parking their cars at a business across the street.

So what does "Park Closed" mean to you? Would you go around the locked gates and fly anyway?

Don

The dictionary says " Park closed " and " Keep Out " are the same.
Rancho, or a soccer feild are a better choice.

It seems patently obvious that you are not supposed to go in. A locked gate, and a sign stating the park is closed, each confirm that it is really supposed to be closed, rather than just a mistake.

Just my opinion.

Oh, and at the moment Rancho is excellent, I was just there, and the park is empty, but the runway is not too wet for use, and the wind is still light.

Baylands

Postby Allen Strahm » Sun Jan 06, 2008 2:34 pm

Due to the fact that Baylands is a protected wetlands and all of the Great Meadow is below sea level, the city often closes the park during storms as the water level rises on the Meadow and they want to protect the grass. I feel we should abide by the wishes of the City of Sunnyvale as I would hate to lose this great flying site due to a few idiots. Closed means closed.

What the hell bring your dog while your at it, I am sure it is ok to keep them in the car; they are really not in the park then. And remember the stop signs on the way home are optional!!! Duh.
