New to forum, basic hello

EDIT: I got confused on which place I visited that day. AeroMicro was closed and I actually bought the heli at RC World of Planes.

Hey Guys,

I just bumped into Don from B.A.R/C at RC World of Planes and he suggested I check out your forum.

I have a little project I'm working on that requires me to de-noob myself in a few areas, so I hope to be able to bounce ideas around here.

Phase 1 is a hand held contra-rotating toy fan with an electronic speed control.

I bought a beginners kit for the ESC circuit, along with a brush-type ESC that I hope I can get to work with a servo tester.

One of those configurations should get me started.

I'm going with a contra gearbox instead of the twin motor configuration because I'm trying to build experience for a large gas version.

Let me know that you think!

Best,

-Torrey

Torrey

Sounds like a challenge to begin with but heck why not.

Pics would be helpful and I'm sure tons of folks can chime in.

Thanks for the welcome!

My goal for this project is simply to demonstrate a contra gearbox in a fun way.

A toy fan with contra rotating blades would be a fun paperweight.

My ultimate goal is to be able to apply the principal in a full scale environment on an experimental aircraft, but...

...Contra rotating props tend to be on the fringe due to their non-trivial nature, so I figured it would make sense to see if I could do it in several levels to build experience.

If the fixed pitch toy fan works, I will try to do a variable pitch version.

I will post some pics soon. I'm designing the toy fan in SolidWorks.

Non project related update:

I love the Blade mCX! I have 6 batteries now and I still haven't broken it after perhaps 20 flights.

I can't wait to upgrade to the mSR!

Perry at AeroMicro is selling the BNF version for $150, which is equivalent to the best deals I have seen online.

I need to PM Don about Bay Area Micros... :)
