EDF Kit around an Astro 010 fan unit?

EDF Kit around an Astro 010 fan unit?

Postby hemna » Thu Nov 20, 2003 12:42 pm

Howdy,
I was curious if there was a kit out there that would do well with a single Astro 010 fan unit. I'd like to do an EDF kit, but I don't think I could afford one that requires 2 fans.

Ideas?

I believe Steve's F16 uses an 010 EDF. The flying styro is quite tricky to build so you may want to touch-base with him first. Wing loading is everything.

Asto 010 fan unit

Hemma:

The Astro Flight 010 with Wemotek fan works well with either the Flying Styro F-16 or A-7. I have an F-16 and am very happy with the performance. The hard part was installing the fan in the tail. You need to make a couple of formers to secure the fan housing and that was difficult for me. I used 6 mm depron for the fan formers and they have held up well.

I chose the AF unit because it was plug and play verus buying a Razor 300 and fan separately and then balancing them. However, the Razor 300 might be a faster combo.

Either way with Li-polys, you can get the weight in the 9.75 - 11oz range and get good performance.

Hope the comments help,

Steve

Do you happen to have a URL for those kits?

Flying Styro kits

Hemna:

Not sure of their URL. Hobby Lobby has good info on Flying Styro planes in general. Also, most hobby shops carry them.

Hey Mark,

Was good to meet you at Baylands today. I was impressed with your sharky edf with forward swept wings an all. Your Astro 010 fan setup gave impressive performance.

As for your dual fin foamy jet liner with mini WemoTec edf - all I can say is you need to meet up with Pete and Ted. They both build/fly your kind of crafts. The fan was clearly generating great dynamic thrust. If you get the chance to post photos - would be cool.

Cheers,
Nick

Thanks Nick,

It was good to meet you too, and Don. Thanks for this cool forum! Maybe next time I'll see you fly your A-10 and other jets (F-16?) and meet Pete & Ted. I'll post/update pics soon.
